DR. TAYFUN GURBUZ


DR. TAYFUN GURBUZ  graduated Hacettepe University Medical School in Ankara, Turkey in 1989 with honors. He worked as resident in Surgery at the Hacettepe University Hospitals for a brief period and was accepted for a 5 year residency training program in Surgery in the United States.

He completed his General Surgery Residency training in Colorado and then was accepted for Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency training at the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center. He completed both residency programs successfully and practiced as a cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon in Arizona for 6 years. 

Dr. Gurbuz was able to accomplish a number of professional achievements in his field during his career in the United States. He received many awards for scientific research projects and for his outstanding performance during residency training. He was able to complete the comprehensive written and oral examinations by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. He was then granted the Board Certification by both Boards and became “Diplomate” of American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.

Dr. Gurbuz embraced and further developed many new surgical techniques during his career. He was among the first surgeons practicing Beating Heart Bypass Surgery in the State of Arizona and trained a number of surgeons from the United States and abroad in Off-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery.

He serves as a Fellow of the The American College of Surgeons and is a full member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. 

Dr. Gurbuz holds full and unrestricted licenses to practice medicine and surgery in the States of Washington and several other states.

He was also recommended and elected to be an ‘Expert Witness’ by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. He has been called in as an expert witness and defends the fellow cardiothoracic surgeons in a number of Medical Practice Tort Claims.

He serves as a reviewer in the Cardiovascular Review Board of several medical boards and reviews complaints about physicians and makes recommendations regarding physician practices.

Dr. Gurbuz has published many scientific clinical and research papers in the prestigious Scientific Journals of North America, Europe and Asia.

He also serves as a Reviewer for The Asian Cardiovascular and Thoracic Annals and reviews scientific articles submitted for publication in this Journal.
