EDUCATION & TRAINING
Dr. Gurbuz graduated Hacettepe University Medical School with honors in 1989. He started residency training at the Hacettepe University Hospitals in the same year.
After successfully completing ECFMG (Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates) examinations, he was accepted for Surgery Residency Training at the University of Colorado/St. Joseph Hospital Medical Center Hospitals. Dr. Gurbuz completed 5 years of general surgery training. Dr. Gurbuz successfully passed written and oral board examinations and was certified by the American Board of Surgery in 1997.
He was then accepted to the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center for Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery Residency Program.
Dr. Gurbuz completed cardiothoracic and vascular surgery training program successfully. He then passed the written and oral examinations for The American Board of Thoracic Surgery and became certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.
Dr. Gurbuz participated in many professional courses and following his training and followed and practiced current developments in cardiac surgery. Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery, Mitral Valve Repair, Beating Heart Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery, surgery for atrial fibrillation and complex/hybrid aortic surgery are among the new surgical procedures he has adopted and currently performs.
Dr. Gurbuz took an additional training course in newly developed endovascular surgery techniques at the Arizona Heart Institute in 2004 and developed endovascular skills for endovascular repair of aneurysms and angioplasty of vascular stenoses.
